ByteDance Ltd’s TikTok is under investigation in Colombia over whether it adequately protects the information of children who use the company’s social media app.
The nation’s data protection regulator announced the investigation Tuesday under a 2012 law provision that applies to the privacy rights of children and adolescents.
TikTok did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The investigation will focus on TikTok’s compliance with the country’s regulation for data privacy of minors and whether the company has mechanisms to guard against risks of abuse of children, the regulator said in a statement.
