Thomson Reuters to Pay $27.5 Million Over Sale of Personal Data

Thomson Reuters Corp. will pay $27.5 million to settle a lawsuit alleging it collected and sold publicly available information about consumers without their knowledge or consent in violation of California privacy laws, under a deal given final approval in federal court.

Class members are eligible for a proportionate share of the net settlement fund after deduction of attorneys’ fees and costs, the costs of administration, and service awards to the class representatives, according to the plaintiffs’ motion for final approval of the deal.
