Supreme Court Passes on Case Over ‘Sweeping’ Surveillance (1)

The US Supreme Court let a state secrets shield block a nonprofit’s legal challenge to a National Security Agency program that monitors communications moving across internet transmission lines that carry data to and from the US.

The nonprofit behind the crowdsourced online encyclopedia Wikipedia sued the NSA over this use of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, deeming it a “sweeping invasion of Americans’ privacy” that also raises concerns for free speech, according to the group’s petition asking the high court to review the case.
