Suit Over Lee Enterprises Video-Info Disclosure Can Proceed

Lee Enterprises Inc. must face a proposed class action alleging it shared information with Facebook about the video viewing histories of subscribers to its online publications without their consent in violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act.

The complaint filed by plaintiffs Brittney Stoudemire, Amanda Vose, and four others plausibly alleged that Lee, a publisher of local news in 77 markets around the US, disclosed personally identifiable information within the meaning of the VPPA, and did so knowingly, Judge Stephen H. Locher of the US District Court for the Southern District of Iowa said Thursday.
