Stelco says it was the target of “a criminal attack on its information systems,” and that its countermeasures limited the attack’s scope.
“Certain operations, including steel production, were temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure but have since resumed operations,” the Hamilton, Ontario-based company said in a statement.
Stelco and cybersecurity specialists are continuing to investigate the attack and the extent of its impact on the company’s systems. It’s implementing its backup and recovery plans, and some business functions may be adversely affected during the recovery process. It will also cooperate with law enforcement authorities to investigate the crime.
