Software Producer Advances Claims in Law Firm Ransomware Suit

ACE American Insurance Co. must face two counterclaims from software maker Accellion Inc. in a dispute arising from a ransomware attack on a Boston law firm that led to $2.4 million in losses, according to a federal judge in California.

The law firm was allegedly hacked through software licensed from Accellion. The firm, with assistance from the insurer, paid a ransom and incurred other costs. Ace sued the software company, which in turn brought three counterclaims.
