Singing River Gulfport Defeats Patients’ Data Breach Lawsuit

Singing River Gulfport, which operates Mississippi hospitals, convinced a federal court to dismiss a data breach suit from patients who failed to sufficiently establish they had standing to sue.

Article III standing would require an injury in fact traceable to Singing River’s conduct. The four lead plaintiffs’ allegations failed to meet that standard, the US District Court of the Southern District of Mississippi said Thursday.

The hospital system fell victim to a ransomware attack in August 2023, in which hackers gained access to personal identity and health information, the plaintiffs alleged in a proposed class action.
