SignalHire Can’t Shake Right-of-Publicity Suit Over Teaser Ads

Employment-recruiting firm SignalHire LLC must face a proposed class action alleging it misappropriated people’s names and identities in teaser ads it posted on its website in violation of the Illinois Right of Publicity Act.

Plaintiff Sherry Gaul’s allegations that the Poland-based firm used the personal information of Illinois residents to market its services to Illinois customers was sufficient to that establish jurisdiction was proper in the state, Judge James E. Shadid of the US District Court for the Central District of Illinois said Monday.
