EU Official Says Senators Closing in on Draft Privacy Bill (2)

U.S. senators are nearly done drafting federal privacy legislation, the European Union commissioner in charge of data protection told reporters one day after meeting with lawmakers.

A Senate federal draft privacy bill is “more or less” prepared, Vera Jourova, the EU commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality, said April 12. Jourova met April 11 with members of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, including Chairman Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), and Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.).
