Russia Enacts New Law That Increases Fines for Data Breaches

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed legislation into law aimed at improving protection of personal data.

The Federal Law No. 19-FZ increases administrative penalties for violations relating to protection of personal data, the Kremlin press service said in a statement Wednesday. The law stipulates new penalties for repeated violations, the Kremlin said.

Unlawful processing of personal data entails fines of 60,000-100,000 rubles ($811-1,351) for businesses and 10,000-20,000 rubles for executives, while repeated violations entail fines of 100,000-300,000 rubles for businesses and 20,000-50,000 rubles for executives.
