Quest Diagnostics Sued for Conspiring with Facebook to Eavesdrop

Quest Diagnostics Inc. conspired with Facebook to eavesdrop on its website visitors and collect their personal and medical information without permission, according to a proposed class action filed in federal court in California.

Angela Cole and Beatrice Roche claimed that Quest uses on its platform Facebook’s “Tracking Pixel,” or bits of code that advertisers can integrate into their servers to enable Facebook to intercept and collect user activity. For example, if a website visitor clicks on a tab for allergy information, Facebook will receive the information, alongside additional information about the individual’s identity, the complaint said.
