PubMatic Inc. Pares Down Web Data Tracking Class Action Lawsuit

PubMatic Inc., an online advertising company, shed one claim in a lawsuit alleging that it illegally monitored users’ web movements through its “pixel tracking” technology.

Judge Susan Illston of the US District Court for the Northern District of California on Tuesday granted PubMatic’s motion to dismiss an unjust enrichment claim from four named plaintiffs and a Jane Doe on behalf of a proposed class. But the judge rejected the company’s efforts to dismiss claims that it violated California and federal communications privacy laws, among others, after finding that the plaintiffs sufficiently stated a claim to advance the case.
