Privacy Group Sues ICE for Records on Facial Recognition Work

A group seeking records about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement work with Clearview AI on facial recognition sued the agency for allegedly failing to meet Freedom of Information Act disclosure deadlines.

The agency hasn’t communicated about the records request since May, the Electronic Privacy Information Center alleged in a lawsuit filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

The privacy and civil liberties group also accused ICE of unlawfully withholding agency records. Facial recognition technology lets the agency “collect a large amount of personal information without a warrant,” the group alleged.
