Privacy Group Calls to Limit Police Use of Ring Camera Footage

The Los Angeles Police Department sought footage from Amazon.com Inc.'s Ring home security cameras in relation to this past summer’s Black Lives Matter protests, according to emails obtained by a nonprofit focused on privacy and other digital rights.

The emails, made public Tuesday, highlight how few legal restrictions govern surveillance technologies like Ring, the Electronic Frontier Foundation said. The group is calling for stronger limits on government access to data collected by private companies such as Amazon.
