Pregnancy Protection Bill Among Measures Advanced by House Panel

The House labor committee signed off on a trio of workplace-focused bills Wednesday, including legislation that would augment protections for pregnant workers and make it easier to bring pay-discrimination lawsuits.

The House Education and Labor Committee voted to advance the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, the Paycheck Fairness Act, and the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act.

Earlier versions of all three bills were approved by the House in a previous Congress, but died in the Senate—and their prospects of becoming law this year are uncertain.
