Pinsight Media, the maker of the 1Weather app, is giving users more information about how their location data is used for targeted ads, after an advertising watchdog conducted a review of the company’s disclosures.
The Digital Advertising Accountability Program, part of BBB National Programs, announced Pinsight’s actions in a statement Thursday. The accountability program responds to consumer complaints and monitors companies that use internet-based advertising to ensure they follow its standards.
Companies that violate program rules could face consumer protection lawsuits, state attorney general actions, or Federal Trade Commission fines for failing to uphold promises.
