Philadelphia Inquirer Data Breach Settlement Gets Early Approval

A federal judge granted preliminary approval of a $525,000 settlement in a proposed class action accusing The Philadelphia Inquirer of inadequate security practices that led to a May 2023 breach.

The preliminary settlement, granted by Judge Karen Spencer Marston on Oct. 25, requires the newspaper to create a $525,000 non-reversionary settlement fund which will be used to pay for administrative expenses, taxes, and any fee award and costs, according to a filing in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
