Period Tracking App Flo Settles FTC Data Sharing Allegations

Flo Health Inc. has settled Federal Trade Commission allegations that it shared sensitive health information with data analytics providers after promising it would be kept private.

The popular period and fertility tracking app developer must notify affected users about the disclosure of their personal information and instruct third parties that handled users’ health information to destroy the data as part of the proposed settlement.

The settlement highlights a growing concern among privacy advocates, attorneys general, and regulators about the security and transparency of women’s health applications, which often track intimate data including menstruation cycles and sexual activity.
