Paychex Sued After Breach Exposes Personal Data Held for Clients

Paychex Inc. exposed the sensitive information of thousands of people it handled for businesses and employers in an April data breach, a proposed class action said.

Paychex allowed an unauthorized individual to access the names, Social Security numbers, and other personal identifying information of individuals who worked for businesses that contract with the company, according to a complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Western District of New York. The company said the incident occurred on April 30 when Paychex was attempting to exchange information with the State of California, it noted.
