Patients Seek to Halt Meta’s Alleged Medical Data Collection

Patients who claim their health-care providers’ use of a Meta Platforms Inc. tracking tool led to the illegal interception of their medical information asked a California federal court to prohibit Meta from collecting and disseminating that data.

The patients argued a preliminary injunction is appropriate because the irreparable harm of Meta’s alleged collection of patients’ medical communications, conditions, and appointments would continue to harm millions of Americans. Meta obtains such HIPPA-protected information without patient consent, the Thursday motion at the US District Court for the Northern District of California said.
