Orange Denies Responsibility for Cyber Attack on African Rival

Orange SA bought itself a problem.

The French communications giant purchased Cellcom Telecommunications Inc. in 2016 in a bid to strengthen its position in Africa.

Now, Orange finds itself party to a London lawsuit that alleges the management of the small phone carrier was behind a cyberattack on rival Lonestar Cell MTN, a unit of Africa’s largest wireless carrier MTN Group Ltd.

Lonestar alleges that British hacker Daniel Kaye led the attack that crippled its network in Liberia, on the instruction of Avishai Marziano, the then-chief executive officer of Cellcom, according to evidence from a criminal case against Kaye. ...
