Oracle will pay $115 million to settle a proposed class action alleging the company tracks consumers’ online activities and creates digital dossiers about them for marketing purposes in violation of state and federal privacy laws.
Plaintiffs asked the US District Court for the Northern District of California to approve the settlement in an unopposed motion Thursday.
The settlement—filed just shy of two years after the initial complaint was filed—comes after three rounds of motions to dismiss and eight months of settlement negotiations and was reached after Oracle announced in June that it would shut down its ad tech business.
