Oracle Suffers Setback in Consumer Suit Over Data Collection

A proposed class action alleging Oracle America Inc. collected and sold the personal information of Internet users in violation of state law and federal wiretap law survived the company’s motion to dismiss for the second time.

Plaintiffs Michael Katz-Lacabe and Jennifer Golbeck alleged that Oracle, a cloud-infrastructure provider that is also registered as a data broker in California, invades people’s privacy by using tracking technologies to build “digital dossiers” on them for marketing purposes.
