The Norwegian Data Protection Authority May 20 announced a NOK 500,000 ($60,100) fine against NextGenTel Holding ASA for repeated breaches of confidential contact information.
According to a statement from the DPA, a customer of the Norwegian telecommunications company complained that her unlisted number and address were listed on Internet directory inquiries. After further investigation, the DPA found that unlisted numbers for 1,828 customers were posted online.
The DPA said NextGenTel caused the breaches and can rectify the situation by shoring up their security procedures and implementing system upgrades to better protect confidential information.
