New Jersey Law Enforcers’ Privacy Suits Landing in Federal Court

Roughly 50 companies accused of violating a New Jersey law enforcement privacy statute—including the likes of Zillow Group Inc. and TransUnion—are seeking to litigate the potentially costly class actions in federal court.

The businesses separately faced state court claims from tens of thousands of plaintiffs seeking $1,000 a person for alleged failures to delete private telephone numbers and home addresses tied to judges, police officers, and prosecutors residing in New Jersey, according to Bloomberg Law’s analysis of 48 removal filings submitted in federal court over the past 10 days.
