New Google Division Looks to Defense Innovation Unit as Model

The newly created Google Public Sector division was inspired by the tech company’s collaboration with the Pentagon’s Defense Innovation Unit, an entity dedicated to adopting commercial technology for military capabilities, the division’s CEO Will Grannis said at a MerITocracy event Thursday.

Alphabet Inc.‘s Google launched the division in June to drive digital innovation by giving public institutions access to Google Cloud’s data and analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning tools.
