NC Hospitals Sued Over Sharing of Medical Data With Meta, Google

A North Carolina health system deployed tracking technologies on its website to collect and share tens of thousands of patients’ health information with third parties including Meta Platforms Inc. and Google LLC without their consent, a complaint said.

Cumberland County Hospital System Inc., which conducts business as Cape Fear Valley Health System, leaned on tracking pixels to disclose patients’ health conditions and symptoms, physicians, appointment details, and personal identifiers, according to a proposed class action filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
