NBCUniversal Hit With Lawsuit Over Data Trackers on Website

A California resident sued NBCUniversal Media LLC claiming the company violated privacy laws by allowing third-party trackers to intercept his web browsing data without consent.

Austin White alleged that NBC embedded tracking technologies from Google LLC, Taboola Inc., and TVSquared Ltd. on its websites, allowing the third parties to capture his personal information, including the URLs of pages users visited and sensitive content about LGBTQ issues.

NBC’s practices violate California’s wiretapping law and federal privacy statutes, according to a complaint filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
