Nationstar Mortgage Sued Over Hack Affecting 15 Million People

Nationstar Mortgage LLC failed to protect the personal information of nearly 15 million customers and applicants that was exposed in an October 2023 data breach, a proposed federal class action said.

Adrian S. Randles alleged that Nationstar, a mortgage lending and loan servicing company which does business as Mr. Cooper, failed to redact or encrypt sensitive information, implement reasonable data-security measures, or comply with industry-standard data-security practices.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of California, brings a single claim for damages and injunctive relief under the California Consumer Privacy Act. Randles seeks ...
