A direct mortgage lender has agreed to pay $6.25 million to resolve allegations it violated a federal robocall law by sending texts without permission, under a proposed class action settlement filed in a California federal district court.
AmeriSave Mortgage Corp. said it would change its dialing practices to settle claims it used an automatic telephone dialing system to send marketing calls or texts to more than 2 million cell phones in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
The proposed settlement shows the risks companies face under the 1991 federal statute that lets consumers to seek damages for alleged violations. ...
