Morgan Stanley in $6.5m Settlement Over Data Security: Conn. AG

Morgan Stanley Smith Barney agreed to pay $6.5m to settle claims tied to “negligent internal data security practices,” Connecticut Attorney General William Tong said in a statement.

  • Morgan Stanley failed to erase unencrypted data in some decommissioned computer devices, exposing consumers’ personal information, according to the statement
  • The settlement is with Tong and the attorneys general of New York, Florida, Indiana, New Jersey and Vermont
