Michigan Governor Names Appeals Judge to State Supreme Court

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) on Wednesday appointed a state appeals court judge as the state’s newest Supreme Court justice.

Judge Noah P. Hood will replace Chief Justice Elizabeth T. Clement, who stepped down to become the next president of the National Center for State Courts. Whitmer said in a news release that Hood “will bring important perspectives” with his background. His appointment further solidifies a leftward lean by a seven-member court that now has just one justice supported by Republicans.
