Civil liberties groups urged the Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday to investigate Meta Platforms Inc. and X Corp., formerly known at Twitter, for allegedly violating federal supervisory agreements and their own policies to protect users against surveillance companies scooping up their data.
A letter to the FTC says that despite the platforms’ promises, a bevy of social media monitoring companies have contracted with government agencies in exchange for access to Meta and X’s user data.
