Meta, Microsoft Seek Escape From DNA Data-Sharing Class Action

DNA-testing platform Nebula Genomics Inc., Meta Platforms Inc., Microsoft Corp., and Google LLC asked a federal judge to throw out a proposed class action accusing them of misusing genetic information with tracking technology on Nebula’s website.

Nebula customer and named plaintiff Antoinette Portillo’s October 2024 lawsuit accusing Nebula of sharing its customers’ genetic information—including their predisposition to certain diseases and hormone levels—with third parties in violation of Illinois’ Genetic Information Privacy Act should be dismissed, the companies argued in separate motions filed Tuesday and Wednesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
