Mashable Visitor Advances Suit Over Microsoft Data Disclosure

Mashable Inc. must face a proposed class action alleging it disclosed the IP addresses and device identifiers of its website visitors to Microsoft Corp. and other third parties in violation of the California Invasion of Privacy Act.

Lead plaintiff Dawn Fregosa plausibly alleged that Mashable’s data disclosures violated CIPA’s prohibition on the use of a pen register without consent or a court order, Judge Charles R. Breyer of the US District Court for the Northern District of California said Thursday.
