Marriott Gets Quick Appeal of Class Certification in Breach Suit

Marriott International Inc. can get a quick appeal of the order certifying a class of 20 million individuals who allegedly had their personal information compromised by a major data breach of its guest reservation database, the Fourth Circuit ruled Thursday.

A federal judge in Maryland granted class certification in May to seven classes and subclasses for various claims over the data breach. The judge rejected Marriott’s argument that certification should be denied because not all of the class members demonstrated that they’ve suffered an injury.
