Mapfre Faces New Lawsuit Over Exposed Driver’s License Numbers (Correct)

Property insurance company Mapfre U.S.A. Corp. is facing a second proposed class action alleging it disclosed customers’ government ID data online, exposing them to financial fraud.

Identity cyberthieves mined hundreds of thousands of driver’s license numbers in early July from a Mapfre quote estimate webpage that automatically generated a consumer’s number when their name and address were entered, according to the lawsuit filed Friday in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Commerce Insurance Co., a Mapfre subsidiary, is named as a co-defendant in the litigation.
