Lee Enterprises $600,000 Data Breach Settlement Gets First Nod

Lee Enterprises Inc.'s agreement to pay $600,000 to resolve a data breach class action on behalf of nearly 40,000 people received preliminary approval from a federal court.

The media company suffered a computer attack in February 2025 that the plaintiffs said potentially compromised current and former Lee employees’ sensitive data, including Social Security numbers and medical information. The proposed settlement provides adequate relief to the class compared to the risk of litigation, Judge Stephanie M. Rose of the US District Court for the Southern District of Iowa said Jan. 23.
