A $17.6 million settlement resolving a data breach class action suit involving insurance giant
The settlement is fair, reasonable, and adequate, Judge Martha M. Pacold wrote in an order filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Attorneys representing Kemper didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Irma Carrera Aguallo sued Kemper in April, accusing the insurance company of failing to guard customers’ personal data—including Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and medical leave information—from a breach and scraping incident.
