Judge Greenlights Privacy Claims in BetterHelp Suit (Correct)

Users’ claims that teletherapy platform BetterHelp Inc. violated California and US electronic communications privacy laws can proceed, a federal judge ruled.

BetterHelp improperly and illegally exposed thousands of customers and potential customers’ personal information, and failed to adequately host protected health information shared with third-party advertising platforms including Facebook, according to a class action filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California in March 2023.

In its motion to dismiss BetterHelp argued that it collected only a limited amount of anonymized user data and “was in no way unlawful or harmful,” according to the filing. District ...
