Judge Denies Data Brokers’ Bid to Ax Police Privacy Suits (2)

A New Jersey law protecting the home addresses of law enforcement officials and judges from online publication doesn’t violate the constitution, a federal judge decided.

Judge Harvey Bartle III denied a consolidated motion by data brokers to dismiss lawsuits brought by New Jersey police officers represented by data privacy company Atlas Privacy Corp as unconstitutional. The suits, now in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, alleged that the data brokers failed to comply with New Jersey’s Daniel’s Law, a first-of-its-kind statute protecting the home addresses and phone numbers of police officers and other covered public officials.
