Judge Blasts ICE Noncompliance With Chicago Court Settlement

Federal immigration agents repeatedly flouted the terms of a court settlement governing how certain arrests can be made, a federal judge in Chicago has found.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement “unilaterally and prematurely” stopped complying with the agreement earlier this year, Judge Jeffrey Cummings wrote, despite a pending motion to enforce that kept the consent decree in question from expiring. ICE arrested 22 out of 26 members of the class without a warrant in violation of the agreement, Cummings found.
