Judge Backs Kroger’s $5 Million Settlement for Software Breach

A federal judge in California backed The Kroger Co.‘s $5 million class action settlement with consumers who sued over a breach of software vendor Accellion Inc.'s file-transfer system.

The settlement, which only resolves claims against Kroger, received preliminary approval from Judge Edward Davila in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, according to a legal filing Nov. 5.

Consumers sued Kroger and Accellion after a data security incident targeted at the software vendor allowed hackers to steal data from some of its clients. The incident compromised personal information on about 3.82 million Kroger employees and pharmacy ...
