John Hancock Sued Over Data Breach of Vendor DG3 North America

John Hancock Investment Management LLC and its marketing vendor DG3 North America Inc. failed to protect the personal information of thousands of investors that was exposed in a February data breach, a proposed federal class action said.

Daniel Cunningham alleged that John Hancock and DG3, which does business as Diversified Global Graphics Group, breached their duties under common law and contract to protect investors’ sensitive information, failed to implement reasonable data-security measures or abide by their obligations under the Federal Trade Commission Act and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and failed to provide timely and adequate notice of the breach.
