Japan’s Nuclear Regulator Suspects Cyberattack, Halts Email

Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority halted email exchanges with outside people and organizations after a suspected cyberattack on its server, a spokesman said Wednesday.

  • NRA is checking if any information from its server was leaked as a result of the suspected attack and it isn’t clear who is responsible
  • There’s no impact on operation of Japanese nuclear plants
  • NOTE: U.S. government is warning of an advanced North Korean hacking group that has targeted the U.S., South Korea and Japan with cyber-intrusions to collect intelligence on issues including nuclear policy and sanctions
