A lawsuit alleging J. Crew Group LLC broke state consumer-protection laws by collecting email addresses from customers during checkout at its brick-and-mortar stores should be thrown out, the company told a federal court.
Courtney Champagne, Polina Ioffe, and Stassa Mark alleged that J. Crew required them to provide their e-mail addresses as a condition of making purchases, and used the email addresses to bombard them with marketing messages.
The company is arguing that they don’t have standing to sue and they failed to state a claim under several state laws.
