Italy is considering the creation of a government-backed cybersecurity entity, a project that would potentially use acquisitions to strengthen sensitive digital infrastructure, according to people familiar with the matter.
Cassa Depositi e Prestiti SpA, the government’s main financial arm, has been reviewing ways to bolster Italy’s digital security and could coordinate the effort should Rome choose to bring key assets under a more unified structure, the people added. No decisions have been made, they cautioned, asking not to be identified discussing early-stage deliberations.
