IRS Unveils Smartphone Application Allowing Taxpayers to Check Tax Refunds

The IRS Jan. 24 unveiled its first smartphone application allowing taxpayers to check the status of their tax refund and get other tax tips.

Apple users can download the free IRS2Go application by visiting the Apple App Store, and Android users can visit the Android Marketplace to download the free IRS2Go app, IRS said in a news release (IR-2011-8).

Basic information is needed to check refund status, IRS said, including Social Security number, which IRS said will be masked and encrypted, filing status, and expected amount of the refund.
