The Security Summit’s annual summer campaign to raise awareness for tax professionals about data theft will begin next week, according to the IRS Tuesday.
This year will focus on reminding tax professionals about the fundamentals as well as the emerging vulnerabilities regarding cloud-based services, according to the agency.
“As we’ve increased our defenses, cyberthieves increasingly turn to tax professionals, especially smaller operations, to look for security vulnerabilities,” said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. “This is a critical link in protecting sensitive taxpayer information. By taking some basic security steps, tax pros help protect against the relentless efforts of identity thieves.”
