Intuit Inc. has settled class claims that it failed to prevent identity thieves from filing false tax turns using its TurboTax product.
The U.S. District for the Northern District of California May 15 granted final settlement approval to a pact that directs Intuit to pay class counsel $2.82 million in attorneys’ fees and $5,000 to each of the six class representatives. Intuit also must provide free credit monitoring to class members and increase data security protections. However, Intuit wasn’t found at fault for the security flaws under the settlement, approved by U.S. District Judge Edward J. Davila.
